CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of New Hampshire senior placekicker and punter Mike MacArthur (North Hampton, N.H.) has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Placekicker Award Watch List, as announced by the organization Monday. The preliminary watch list highlights 32 returning performers vying for the top individual placekicker award in the Football Championship Subdivision.
"Congratulations to Mike MacArthur on earning a spot on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "MacArthur has converted 80% of his field goal attempts over his career. As a senior at UNH, MacArthur will be one of the nation's top placekickers to watch in 2013."
MacArthur was named to the All-CAA Third Team and College Sports Madness All-CAA Third Team in 2012, as well as earning the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award and a spot on the CAA Academic All-Conference Team. The Granite State native went 11-for-14 in field-goal attempts, hitting a long of 43 yards at Georgia State (Oct. 6) and converted 38 of 46 PATs. MacArthur was named the CAA & ECAC Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting a 27-yard field goal, going 5-for-5 in PATs and launching a 51-yard punt in a 44-40 comeback win over Richmond (Oct. 13).
Former New Hampshire linebacker Matt Evans (Hanover, Ma.) was tabbed the CFPA Elite Linebacker Award winner in 2011.
All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration. For more information, visit www.collegefootballperformance.com. The full list of 2013 CFPA FCS award recipients will be announced Jan. 8, 2014.
