Football's Harris, O'Neill Named to BSN Preseason All-America Second Team
LEESBURG, Va. – R.J. Harris (Odenton, Md.) and Seamus O'Neill (Manchester, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire football team have been named to the 2013 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Preseason All-America Second Team, it was announced Thursday.
Harris, a junior who was tabbed to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Wide Receiver Award Watch List last month, was honored as a BSN Preseason All-America Honorable Mention in 2012. Last season, Harris claimed a spot on the All-CAA First Team, the All-New England Team, the College Sports Madness All-CAA First Team and the ECAC D-I FCS All-Star Team after notching 84 receptions for 1,059 yards; those single-season totals ranked fourth (catches) and sixth (yards) in UNH history. The 6-foot, 192-pound WR ranked second in the CAA in receptions/game (7.0) and receiving yards/game (88.2), and his nine TD catches ranked third in the league. With 134 catches and 1,773 receiving yards, Harris is 16 receptions and 140 yards shy of reaching the University's career Top 10 in those categories.
O'Neill, a senior co-captain, was named BSN All-America Honorable Mention last year after starting all 12 games at left tackle. The lineman anchored the line for an offense that ranked second in the CAA in scoring (34.1 points/game), total offense (451.5 yards/game) and first downs (22.1/game) while placing third in rushing (220.8 yards/game) and passing (230.8 yards/game). O'Neill was subsequently named an ECAC All-Star and earned a place on both the All-CAA First Team and the College Sports Madness All-CAA First Team.
UNH, the 2012 co-CAA champions, opens the 2013 season at Central Michigan of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Wildcats possess the nation's longest streaks for consecutive playoff appearances (nine) and consecutive weeks ranked (126).
