Football's R.J. Harris Named to CFPA WR Award Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of New Hampshire junior wide receiver R.J. Harris (Odenton, Md.) has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Wide Receiver Award Watch List, the organization announced Monday. The preliminary list highlights 34 returning performers vying for the top WR honor in the Football Championship Subdivision.

"Congratulations to R.J. Harris on becoming the third UNH player to earn a spot on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith said. "With 1,059 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns last season, Harris produced one of the top single-season receiving performances in UNH history."

Harris claimed a spot on the All-CAA First Team, the All-New England Team, the College Sports Madness All-CAA First Team and the ECAC D-I FCS All-Star Team in 2012 after making 84 receptions for 1,059 yards; those single-season totals ranked fourth (catches) and sixth (yards) in UNH history. The 6-foot, 192-pound wide receiver ranked second in the CAA in receptions/game (7.0) and receiving yards/game (88.2) while his nine TD catches ranked third in the league.

Harris received CFPA National WR of the Week Honorable Mention after recording eight catches for a career-high 191 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats' 64-61 loss at Old Dominion on Sept. 22. He earned the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award after posting a career-best-matching 12 receptions for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns in New Hampshire's 38-17 win at Holy Cross (Aug. 30), and he was selected as the College Sports Madness CAA Offensive Player of the Week for tallying seven catches for 129 yards and two TDs in a 34-14 triumph over Delaware (Sept. 29).

With 134 catches and 1,773 receiving yards, Harris is 16 receptions and 140 yards shy of reaching the University's career Top 10 in those categories.

UNH is one of only six programs to have returning players on the CFPA Quarterback Award Watch List (Andy Vailas; Bedford, N.H.), the CFPA Running Back Award Watch List (Nico Steriti; Toms River, N.J.) and the CFPA Wide Receiver Award List. Former New Hampshire linebacker Matt Evans (Hanover, Ma.) was tabbed the CFPA Elite Linebacker Award winner in 2011.

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.
