Athletics Announces Availability in 2011 Summer Camps

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire athletic department has openings remaining in a number of summer camps involving a variety of sports. The summer camp season begins the last week of June and continues through the end of August.

Men’s basketball will hold a Day Camp (August 1-4) that offers a morning session (9 am-12 pm) for boys and girls entering grades 2-5 and a full day session (9 am-3 pm) for girls and boys entering grades 6-9. 

Women’s basketball has three camps over the course of the summer. There will be a Day Camp (June 27-30) with a Half-day Option (9 am-12 pm) for girls entering grades 2-5 and a Full-day Session (9 am-3 pm) for girls entering grades 2-9. There is also a Shooting Camp (July 30-31) from 9 am-12 pm for girls entering grades 6-12. The third is a High School Team Shootout (August 27-28) beginning at 8:30 am for girls varsity teams only; teams are guaranteed to play a minimum of four games.

Field hockey will hold three separate camps over the course of the summer. The first is an Overnight Camp (July 8-11) and the second is an extra session of the Overnight Camp (July 12-15). Both of these camps are for girls of all ages and positions. There is also an Overnight Goalkeeper Camp (July 16-17) for girls of all ages who play goalkeeper. All three of these camps offer a commuter option. 

Football will hold an Evening Camp (July 17-21) starting at 6 pm for boys entering grades 6-12. It is a full-contact camp offering instruction to athletes of every age group regardless of skill or position.

Gymnastics will hold a Day Camp (June 27-July 1) and an Overnight Camp (July 10-14). The Day Camp has a morning session (9 am-11:45 am) and a full day session (9 am-4 pm), both for ages 6 and older. The Overnight Camp is for ages 7 and older and has a commuter option available. 

Men’s ice hockey will hold a Dick Umile Day Camp (July 25-29) and a Team Camp (August 3-7). The Day Camp is held from 8 am-5 pm for boys ranging from 7-15 years of age; it includes both on-ice training and off-ice activities.

Women’s ice hockey will hold an Overnight Camp (July 17-21) for girls ranging from 8-18 years of age; the groups are divided into U-14 (8-13) and U-18 (14-18). There is an optional commuter package available as well. 

Women’s lacrosse has two summer camps available. There will be a “Top Cat” Elite Overnight Camp (June 27-30) for girls entering grades 7-12, with a commuter option; there are two divisions – Elite and Top Cat. There is also a “Climbing Cat” Day Camp (June 27-30) from 8:30 am-11:30 am for girls entering grades 1-6 who are less experienced or beginners.

Men’s soccer will hold a Nike Dimensions Residential Camp (July 31-August 4) for boys of all ages and abilities. This includes a junior/senior group in which select players will be challenged by a rigorous daily routine simulating a college preseason. 

Women’s soccer will hold an Overnight Camp (July 24-28) for girls entering grades 6-12; there are junior and high school divisions as well as specialized goalkeeper instruction.

Track & field will hold a Distance Running Day Camp (July 24-27) as well as a Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles & Throws Day Camp (July 31-August 4). Both camps are open to athletes entering grades 7-12 and run daily from 4-7 p.m. 

Volleyball still has openings for its Team Camp (August 5-7), which is an overnight camp with a 10-player minimum and 15-player maximum for teams.
