UNH Finishes 82nd in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup

CLEVELAND – The University of New Hampshire finished in 82nd place overall and No. 1 among America East Conference institutions in the 2013-14 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, a joint effort between the National Association of College Directors of America (NACDA) and USA Today. Points were awarded based on each D-I institution’s finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women’s and 10 men’s.

UNH totaled 241.50 points to rank first among America East schools and fourth among Hockey East Association schools (Boston College-65th place, 329.00 points, Providence College (311.00 points, 71st place), Boston University-79th place, 259.50 points).

The Wildcats registered 133 points in the fall season, highlighted by the fifth-ranked football team’s first-ever run to the Division I national semifinals for 83 points, which tied Eastern Washington University for No. 3 among Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs. The America East championship-winning field hockey (25 points) and volleyball (25 points) programs combined for the additional 50 fall points.

UNH amassed 103.50 points during the winter season. The men’s and women’s skiing program placed 11th at the NCAA Championships to notch 57 points; the women’s gymnastics team earned 46.50 points by winning the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship en route to the NCAA Regionals and a final ranking of No. 25 nationally.  

The ‘Cats scored five more points in the spring season courtesy of men’s track and field, which ranked 73rd in the nation. Junior John Prizzi (Wyckoff, N.J.) earned All-America by finishing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event at the NCAA Championships.
