DURHAM, N.H. -- On Sunday, April 28th, student-athletes from the University of New Hampshire implemented and participated in the UNH Athletics Dodgeball Tournament fundraiser. Eleven teams competed in a round-robin format, with a men’s and women’s bracket. The winners were members of the football team and women’s hockey team, with the football team being the overall winners
The students raised close to $350 through participant fees and philanthropic gifts. The money raised will go towards the “Walk of Memory” in front of the Field House; adding missing memorial nameplates, picnic tables, and giving it a more park-like feel. The fundraiser tournament was created and led by interns in the Athletics Development Office, Jane Tighe (Windham, N.H.) of the women’s swimming and diving team, and Seamus O’Neill (Manchester, N.H.) of the football team.
During the Senior Banquet on May 7, Tighe spoke about the purpose of this fundraising event and how the money raised will make an impact.
“This gift does not only remember the Wildcats who have unfortunately left us too soon but it serves as a thank you to an athletic department that has given us endless opportunities during our time here,” Tighe said. “On behalf of the senior class I would like to say thank you for everything you have done for us.”
Photos of the event are posted online at the UNH Wildcats Facebook page.
