John Prizzi Men's Track & Field John, a senior from Wyckoff, N.J., won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend at the University at Albany with a facility-record and IC4A-qualifying time of 9 minutes, 6.11 seconds. It marked the third consecutive year he won that event at the conference meet. In Saturday’s steeplechase field of 15 competitors, John averaged 72.8 seconds per quarter-mile. He bested the second-fastest runner by six seconds and finished 42 seconds ahead of the last scoring runner (eighth place). On Sunday, John ran to fifth place in the 5,000m with a time of 14:55.20.
Elinor Purrier Women's Track & Field Elinor, a sophomore from Montgomery, Vt., shattered two records and was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet at the 2015 America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships that were held last weekend at the Universtiy at Albany. The last time a Wildcat won that award was 2009 (Keely Maguire); despite being a sophomore, Elinor was eligible for the rookie accolade because this marked her first season in outdoor track. On Saturday, Elinor broke the conference and facility record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes, 9.18 seconds; the runner-up crossed the finish line 13 seconds later. She began the day with the 1,500m preliminaries, where she won her heat and had the third-fastest time (4:44.75) of 25 runners to advance to the final heat. One day later, she raced to first place in the 1,500m with a school-record and ECAC-qualifying time of 4:18.59, which was more than 12 seconds faster than the runner-up.
