CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Thursday that 204 University of New Hampshire student-athletes have been named to the America East Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. Furthermore, 97 of those Wildcats received distinction on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
UNH had the third highest total of representatives on both the Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The women’s outdoor track and field team had 55 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, which marked the highest total for all winter and spring sports; that team also had a league-high 28 representatives on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

DURHAM, N.H. – Sandy Bridgeman (UNH ’87) announced Tuesday her resignation as the head coach of the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team. Bridgeman, a three-time America East Coach of the Year selection, compiled an overall record of 123-105 in 13 years at UNH to become the winningest coach in the program’s 33-year history. The University’s athletic department will immediately commence a nationwide search for her successor.
Bridgeman guided the Wildcats to a league-record 12th consecutive appearance in the America East tournament in 2009. UNH finished at 12-7 to mark the seventh time in nine years the ‘Cats reached double digits in the win column. New Hampshire tallied a program-record 15 victories in 2004 as well as 13 last year, 12 in 2002 and 11 in the ’01, ’05 and ’06 seasons.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Sarah Von Bargen (East Setauket, N.Y.), a senior attacker on the University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team, was named to the IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse Division I All-America Third Team on Thursday by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and U.S. Lacrosse.
The organizations also announced the all-region teams on Thursday. Von Bargen and senior defender Beth Stankus (Derry, N.H.) were selected to the Northeast Region First Team and junior attacker Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.) was voted to the Second Team.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team gathered for its annual banquet Sunday afternoon to commemorate the accomplishments of its student-athletes and the 2009 Wildcat team that was in the national rankings all 11 weeks and finished with 12 wins, the fourth-highest total in the program’s 33-year history.
The Offensive MVP was presented to senior attacker Sarah Von Bargen (East Setauket, N.Y.), and classmate Beth Stankus (Derry, N.H.) was cited as the Defensive MVP. Senior co-captains Michaela Hardy (Reading, Mass.) and Kelli LaPerch (Brewster, N.Y.) were co-recipients of the Coaches’ Award. Ilana Cohen (Andover, Mass.) was feted as the Rookie of the Year, and the Strength and Conditioning Award went to sophomore Allie Duclos (South Windsor, Conn.).

UNH won its third consecutive game to improve to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in America East.
