WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – The Women’s Hockey East Association, in conjunction with USA Hockey and the University of New Hampshire, announced Friday that it will hold a Nov. 22 exhibition game featuring WHEA All-Stars vs. the U.S. Women’s National Team at UNH’s Whittemore Center as part of Team USA’s Qwest Tour in preparation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
   Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tickets for the event are $9 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. The on-sale date will be announced at a later time.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Hockey East announced Tuesday that seven student-athletes on the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team were named to the 2008-09 WHEA All-Academic Team.
   Of the seven UNH honorees, Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan), Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) received this distinction for the second time. Both Herman and Wakefield were also feted last year and Taylor was previously honored in 2007. Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ontario), Micaela Long (South Boston, Mass.), Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario) and Brittany Skudder (Plainview, N.Y.) were the other Wildcats named to the 2009 All-Academic Team.

DURHAM, N.H.Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) of the women's ice hockey team and Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) of the men's ski team were named the 2009 recipients of the Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year by the University of New Hampshire athletic department at Tuesday night’s annual Senior Banquet.
     The Tina True Memorial Award, given annually since 2007 to two Wildcat athletes for their commitment to strength and conditioning, was presented to Bellamy and Tom Bishop (Newfield, N.Y.), a senior punter/placekicker on the football team.

DURHAM, N.H. – A total of eight student-athletes received honors as the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team gathered to commemorate the 2008-09 season at its annual awards banquet that was held April 25 at Holloway Commons.
    Team captain and senior defenseman Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) received both the Karyn L. Bye Award as the MVP and the Colleen Coyne Award, which is bestowed upon the best defenseman. Senior forward Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) and junior forward Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario) were also called to the podium to twice to accept an award.

CALGARY, AlbertaJenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario), a sophomore forward on the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was recently named to Canada’s National Women’s Team roster by Hockey Canada. It was also announced that Wakefield will be part of Canada’s Olympic centralization roster.
   The National Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Women’s Championship that will be held April 4-12 in Hameenlinna, Finland. Wakefield competed at the 2008 IIHF Worlds and helped Canada win a silver medal. She also won a silver medal later that year at the Four Nations Cup, and this past January she won silver again at the MLP Cup. Wakefield has also won gold at the ’08 European Air Canada Cup and the ’07 Four Nations Cup.

BOSTONBrian McCloskey, head coach of the fifth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Women’s Division I Coach of the Year by the New England Hockey Writers on Tuesday.
   UNH’s Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) were announced as New England Women’s Div. I All-Stars. UNH comprises one-third of the team and has the highest number of honorees by any school.

WATCH IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
  – Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), a senior defenseman and captain of the 2009 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was one of 21 players selected to the U.S. Women’s National Team. The announcement was made by USA Hockey on Thursday afternoon.
    Bellamy, a 2009 RBK All-America First Team selection, is one of seven defensemen selected to the U.S. Women’s National Team from the original pool of 10. She is one of 16 returnees from the 2008 world championship team as well as one of 17 member of the ’08 Four Nations Cup championship team. Bellamy earned silver medals as a member of the U.S. team at the Four Nations Cup in 2006 and 2007.

BOSTON  — Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), a senior defenseman and captain of the fifth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named a RBK All-America First Team selection by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Thursday.
   Bellamy is the eighth UNH Wildcat to garner All-America recognition; two ‘Cats were multiple recipients to bring the total number of selections to 10. Since the 2006 expansion to First Team and Second Team, Bellamy is the program’s third First Team honoree.
