SCHEDULE
DURHAM, N.H. – Robin Balducci, 18th-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, has announced the 2009 schedule for her UNH team. In addition to five America East league games, the Wildcats will battle four Ivy League teams as well as two ACC teams, a pair of Big East squads and a member of the Big 10.
The 2009 season opens Aug. 30 at home against Syracuse University, a team that advanced to the semifinals of last year’s NCAA tournament and ended the year ranked third in the national polls.

DURHAM, N.H. – Robin Balducci, 18th-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, has announced that Shayna Duffy (Dover, N.H.) and Mary Quill (Portsmouth, N.H.) will attend UNH beginning in the Fall 2009 semester and join the University’s field hockey team.
“We are very excited to add two of the top players in New Hampshire to our program,” Balducci said. “They join Emma Erler, another New Hampshire standout, as part of our incoming class. They bring speed, athleticism and skill.”

CHANDLER, Ariz.– Cally Cooke (Newburyport, Mass.), Brittany Jacobs (Frederick, Md.) and Katherine Nagengast (Westborough, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were named to the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, the NFHCA announced Monday.
It marked the third consecutive year that Cooke, a junior back, received this academic distinction and the third overall for Jacobs, a senior midfielder who was also feted in 2005 and 2006. Nagengast was a rookie goalkeeper for the Wildcats in ’08.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire field hockey program and 18th-year head coach Robin Balducci paid tribute to the student-athletes on the 2008 UNH Wildcats team at the annual banquet, which was held Feb. 15.
Junior Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.) and freshmen Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vt.), Kendall Deck (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Kate Collins Smyth (Parteen, County Claire/Ireland) were recipients of the three major awards.

DURHAM, N.H. – Robin Balducci, 18th-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, announced Monday that four student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the UNH field hockey program in the fall 2009 season.
All four future Wildcats are from the Northeast region and that includes New Hampshire’s own Emma Erler (New Hampton), who is one of three to garner All-America honors in high school. The other three recruits who will be matriculating at UNH are Emily Buda (Simsbury, Conn), Kylie Damon (Skowhegan, Maine) and Melyssa Woods (Glens Falls, N.Y.).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The University of New Hampshire athletic department had 82 student athletes named to the America East Conference’s Academic Honor Roll last week.Students had to earn grade point averages of 3.0 or higher to receive this recognition. Of those student-athletes, 274 earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for completing the fall semester with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher. UNH was tied for second in the conference for number of athletes receiving recognition. The Wildcats were ranked fifth in percentage of student-athletes honored.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Cally Cooke (Newburyport, Mass.), a junior back on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was one of 11 student-athletes named to the 2008 America East Field Hockey All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Cooke, a business administration major who was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team earlier this month, helped lead New Hampshire to a 9-11 overall record that included a second-place finish in the America East regular-season standings and a runner-up finish in the league tournament.

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.) and Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were selected to the 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Northeast Region First Team, the NFHCA announced Wednesday. UNH’s Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vermont) was a Second Team selection.
UNH is the only America East conference member with multiple First Team honorees. Earlier this month, Craigue was named America East Offensive Player of the Year and she was joined on the All-Conference First Team by Shea. Frates was an All-Conference Second Team selection.
UNH (9-11 overall, 3-2 America East) finished second in the regular-season standings and as runner-up in the conference tournament.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.), the America East Offensive Player of the Year, scored her 11th goal of the season, but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 2-1 by the University at Albany in the America East Championship title game Sunday afternoon at alumni field.
UNH, which finished as league runner-up for the fourth time (1992, 1994, 2000, 2008), ends its season at 9-11. Albany, which defeated the Wildcats 3-1 in last week’s regular-season finale to claim the regular-season crown, is now 12-9 and advances to the NCAA tournament.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.) scored at 4:53 of overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to a 3-2 victory against the University of Maine in an America East Championship semifinal game at the University at Albany’s Alumni Field on Friday afternoon.
UNH, seeded second in the tournament with a 3-2 league record, improved to 9-10 overall to advance to the Nov. 9 (1 p.m.) championship game against Albany, which defeated Boston University, 1-0, in the first semifinal game. Shea scored two goals and Kyle Lyons (White River Junction, Vt.) tallied her first collegiate goal to lead the attack. Jenna Lehman (Kingston, Pa.) was credited with 11 saves.
