NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday that the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team was one of 160 squads named to the 2008 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Team.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The University of New Hampshire athletic department had 82 student athletes named to the America East Conference’s Academic Honor Roll last week.Students had to earn grade point averages of 3.0 or higher to receive this recognition. Of those student-athletes, 274 earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for completing the fall semester with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher. UNH was tied for second in the conference for number of athletes receiving recognition. The Wildcats were ranked fifth in percentage of student-athletes honored.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Tuesday afternoon that senior Ben Jenkins (Francestown, N.H.) and junior Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) of the University New Hampshire men’s cross country team, and senior Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.) and junior Courtney Hamer (Andover, Mass.) of the women’s squad, were named to the 2008 America East All-Academic Team.

BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.), freshman Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.) and sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) placed 31st, 36th and 39th, respectively, to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the 34-team NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Qualifier on Saturday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park.
      The Wildcats finished with 259 points, which trailed Providence College (36), Syracuse University (90), Boston College (95), Stony Brook University (118), Columbia University (140), Cornell University (189), Harvard University (226) and Boston University (228).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior captain Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.), a runner for the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team, was named America East Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week by the conference Tuesday.
     Povec raced to a first-place finish to lead the Wildcats to a fourth-place showing at the Murray Keatinge Invitational at the University of Maine on Oct. 4. Povec completed the five-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 5.38 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of the runner up.
