He also serves as the host of Inside Wildcat Country on WBIN-TV, the television program that offers fans an in-depth look at the inner workings of UNH athletics, showcasing unique feature stories, game recaps and highlights.
A five-time winner of the New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year award (1998, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009), Murphy has served as a sports announcer on the Wildcat Sports Radio Network since 1998. He is the voice of the Wildcat women's hockey broadcasts and color commentator for men's and women's basketball. Previously, Mike served as the color commentator for all UNH football games from 1998-2009 and hosted the weekly UNH Coach’s Show with football head coach Sean McDonnell in the fall and men’s hockey head coach Dick Umile in the winter.
Prior to joining the UNH athletic department, Murphy served as the Director of Media Relations and Ticket Sales Executive for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate located in Manchester, from 2006-10. In that media relations role, he wrote press releases and game notes, supervised press conferences, served as media liaison and helped maintain the team’s website. He played a significant role as part of the Fisher Cats’ front office that was awarded the prestigious 2009 Double-A Bob Freitas Award by Baseball America in recognition for achieving long-term success in Minor League Baseball.
Murphy, feted as the 2008 New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters Air Personality of the Year, was part of the Fisher Cats Radio Network broadcast team from the minor league baseball team's inception in 2004 through 2010. He was also bestowed the 2008 AP Top Play-by-Play Award and is a 12-time recipient of the NHAB Golden Mike Award.
Murphy joined the Fisher Cats’ front office in a full-time capacity as a Ticket Sales Account Executive in January 2006 following more than a decade of radio experience in the Granite State, where he served as host for the "Sports Zone" talk show on 107.7, the Pulse, in Concord.
Murphy is a graduate of Syracuse University, where he earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1995.
